Exploring Rome with NH Collection Hotels

Roma icin fazla söze gerek yok, duydugunuz veya fotograflarda gördügünüz hicbir sey Roma'yi kendi gözlerinizle kesfetmek kadar muazzam bir deneyim olamaz. Su ana kadar Avrupa'da bircok sehir gezdim, ancak Roma, güzelligi tamamen ayri bir seviyeye tasidi. Sehrin tamami bir acik hava müzesi gibi adeta; basini nereye cevirsen tarih, eski binalar ve antik harabeler... Bu yazimi kisa bir gezi rehberi olarak kabul edebilirsiniz, size orada gecen günlerimden bahsedip, harika bir konaklama fikri sunacagim ve ayrica Roma'da görmeniz ve yapmaniz gerekenlerden bahsedecegim. 

No words are needed for Rome, everyone should see this city once with their own eyes. I have been in so many different European capitals before, but Rome took everything to a whole new level. The whole city is literally an open-air museum indeed! There is beauty and history everywhere you turn your head; ancient buildings and ruins... In this post I want to talk about my amazing stay in Rome and give you some advices about what you definitely should see or do in bella Roma. 

Kardesim üniversiteye yeni basladi ve ikimiz de daha önce Roma'ya gitmemis oldugumuz icin ona güzel bir motivasyon hediyesi olacagini düsünerek Roma'ya iki bilet aldim ve hoop bir de bakmisiz ucaktayiz. Roma'da iki havalimani bulunuyor, Fiumicino ve Ciampino. Biz Ciampino'ya indik, burasi sehir merkezine daha yakin. Havalimaninin önünde bekleyen servislerle merkeze gitmek yaklasik 40 dakika sürüyor. Otelimiz Roma'nin merkezi olarak kabul edilen Termini istasyonunun hemen yanindaydi, bu yüzden Termini servisine bindik, ancak farkli yerlere giden servisler de var, iyice emin olun. Servis ücreti kisi basi 4,90€ idi. Bence sehir merkezine ulasmak icin en iyi alternatif bu.

My brother has just begun his studies at the university, and since we both never had been in Rome before, I thought it would be the perfect motivational gift for him and booked a flight and a few days later our trip began. After a 2 hours flight, we finally arrived at the Ciampino Airport and took a shuttle bus which is really cheap (4,90€ per person). I think there is no better alternative to get to the city center. It took about 40 minutes to get to the central station Termini by bus.

NH COLLECTION ROMA PALAZZO CINQUECENTO

Roma'daki günlerimizi NH Collection Roma Palazzo Cinquecento'da gecirmeye karar verdik. Konum olarak Termini istasyonunun hemen yaninda, yürüme mesafesi 2 dakika sadece. Otele ulastigimizda cok sicak bir sekilde karsilandik, valizlerimiz alindi ve odamiz gösterilmek üzere 4. kata ciktik.

We spent our holidays in Rome at the NH Collection Roma Palazzo Cinquecento. The hotel is located next to the central station Termini, you only have to walk about 2 minutes. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff welcomed us very warmly and took our luggage immediately. After the check-in, the receptionist escorted us to our room on the 4th floor. 

Gayet genis olan oda, modern ve cagdas bir stille dekore edilmisti, özellikle yatak inanilmaz konforlu ve rahatti. Oturma alani, calisma masasi, televizyon ve minibar da odada mevcut ayrica. Odaya girdigimizde masanin üzerinde bizi inanilmaz lezziz kücük bir tart bekliyordu, yaninda buldugum hosgeldiniz notu ise bizi cok mutlu etti ve ilk dakikadan itibaren otelde iyi hissetmemizi sagladi. Ne kadar ince düsünülmüs bir detay! 

Our spacious room was decorated in a modern, contemporary design and the bed was absolutely cozy and comfortable. Our room provided a sitting area, a desk, a television and of course a minibar filled with lots of snacks and drinks. When we entered our room, we found a super tasty looking sweet treat on the table with a personal note as a welcome. This was just too kind and cute! Right from the start, we felt absolutely comfortable in that beautiful hotel! 

Odamizin banyosu ise ayni sekilde oldukca genisti. Temizlik konusunda da söylenecek söz yok, her yer piril piril ve hijyenikti, kozmetik ürünleri yeni, havlular temizdi. Resimlerden de gördügünüz gibi banyoda yok yok.

Our bathroom was also very spacious and featured both a shower and a bathtub. Everything was absolutely clean and the cosmetics were all new. As you can see on the photos, the bathroom provided everything you may need.

Kahvalti, zengin bir acik büfe seklinde otelin restoraninda sunuluyor. Akliniza gelebilecek her sey mevcut - cesitli kruvasanlardan tutun, taze meyvelere, özenle hazirlanmis italyan usulü mezelere kadar her sey mevcuttu. Ben özellikle taze sıkılmıs meyve sularini denemeden kahvaltidan kalkmamanizi öneririm, güne baslamak icin harika vitamin bombasi olacaktir. Gercekten kahvalti ayri bir sölendi, güne böylesine nefis tatlarla ve klasik italyan cappuccinosuyla baslamak asiri keyifliydi. Ayrica restoran personeli de cok kibar ve ilgiliydi her zaman ve bize her gün taze hazirladiklari farkli smoothieler sundular. 

The breakfast buffet was rich and fresh and offered everything you can imagine from croissants up to different sorts of baked goods, from fresh fruits up to delicately prepared Italian antipasti. Everything was fresh and super delicious. I especially loved the freshly squeezed juices - omg so tasty! I couldn't imagine a better start into the day and was happy about having such a great breakfast and a cup of classic Italian cappuccino in the morning. The staff was always so friendly and attentive and offered us each morning different freshly prepared smoothies. 

Ama beni en cok otelin en üst katinda bulunan terasi büyüledi. Buradaki manzara enfes - ROMA, SEN NE GÜZELSIN ÖYLE! Biz daha gecenlerde gittigimiz icin sonbahar havasi tabii epey serin oluyor, ancak bu terasta yaz aylarinda inanilmaz keyif yapilabilecegi bir gercek. Burada oturup sehri izlemek paha bicilemez.

But my personal highlight was definitely the rooftop of the hotel. The view is just incredible from up above - ROME, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! I can imagine that the rooftop is a perfect getaway in summer where you can sip a cold drink while enjoying the city view. Nevertheless, autumn isn't a bad idea either - I really enjoyed that mesmerizing view of Rome!

Dedigim gibi, otelin konumu tek kelimeyle harika. Roma'nin merkezi olarak kabul edilen Termini istasyonunun hemen yani. Termini'den Roma'nin her yönüne giden otobüsler ve metro kalkiyor, dolayisiyla otelden cikip birkac adim yürüdükten sonra her yere kisa sürede ulasmaniz mümkün. Ancak ben yürümeyi seviyorum ve sehri bu sekilde kesfetmek istiyorum derseniz de hic problem degil, kendinizi Roma'nin güzel sokaklarina birakabilirsiniz. Buradan yayan da her yere kisa sürede ulasmak mümkün. 

I already mentioned before - the location of the hotel is absolutely central and next to the Termini. From there you can easily take the busses or the metro. But if you like walking (I definitely do!), you can also get anywhere on foot and stroll through the beautiful alleys of Rome - I think this is the best way to explore the city!

ROMA, AMORE MIO!

Roma'nin tüm müzelerini gezip her yerini görmek icin haftalar yetmez elbet, ancak genel hatlariyla cogu yeri görmek icin 3-4 gün yeterli olur. Biz de üc günlügüne gittik, dördüncü gün dönüs ucagimiz vardi. Giderken 'suraya gidelim burayi görelim' diye detayli plan yapmadik, akisina birakmak istedik. Tabii öncesinde sitelerde görülmesi gereken yerleri okumustum ancak biz illa her yere yetiselim diye cikmadik hic. Kendimizi Roma'nin huzurlu sokaklarina biraktik ve yolun bizi götürdügü yere gittik. Ve inanir misiniz, her yeri, her seyi gördük. Ben sehirleri bu sekilde kendim kesfetmeyi seviyorum, öyle turlara falan katilmam. Bir sehri ancak, kendini sokaklarina birakip sehrin sana söylemek istediklerini dinleyerek tanirsin. Biz Roma'yi tanidik, sokaklarini ezberledik, nerede ne var hafizamiza kazidik ve turistlerden olabildigince uzak, yerlilere yakin muazzam bir zaman gecirdik. Günde 20 km yürüdükten sonra bir zahmet bu kadar da olsun, degil mi?

In order to discover everything the city offers and visit all the museums, you would definitely need a few weeks. Though 3-4 days would be okay, too, to get to know the city and explore Rome with all its important and attractive places. But let me give you an advice: don't rush to see everything on your list, just let go and see where the beautiful alleys of Rome will lead you. Believe me, it is the best way to explore the city! Of course, I had read some articles about Rome before our trip and knew the most important places which I should visit. But we preferred not to be in a hurry in order to see everything. We just wanted to stroll through the city and see where the beautiful little alleys will lead us to. That is why I don't prefer tours either. So, we woke up in the morning, took our cameras and strolled through the whole city - 20 km per day on foot! We saw everything we definitely should see without being in a rush, we could get to know the soul and characteristics of Rome and the most important fact - we could enjoy our time in that beautiful capital to the fullest!

Size de tavsiyem, sehri oldugu gibi tanimaya calisin. Akisina birakin, cünkü Roma'nin gercegi bu. Her seyi göreyim diye kostururken sehrin asil güzelligini kacirmayin. Zaten nereye baksaniz harika seyler göreceksiniz, bu sehri bir acik hava müzesi gibi düsünün. Inanin bana, her kösesinde tarih sakli. Yine de yazinin ilerleyen bölümünde Roma'da görülmesi gereken en önemli yerleri derledim, bunlar aklinizda bulunsun - zaten özel bir caba sarf etmeden de yolunuz buralara cikar mutlaka. 

Thus, my advice: Let the city itself be your guide. Don't miss the beauty of Rome while hurrying all day. Because there is beauty and history everywhere you turn your head - just be attentive and try to discover the city with all its facets. I can describe Rome as a biiiig open-air museum filled with lots of historical places, baroque buildings and ancient ruins. In the following, I will show you my favorite places in Rome and what you should definitely see. 

Roma'ya gidip KOLEZYUM'u görmeden dönmek imkansiz. Tarihi beni büyüleyen muazzam bir yapi. Düsünün, MS 80 yilinda tamamlanmis, o zamandan bu yana ayakta. Bir sehrin, tarihine ve kültürüne bu kadar sahip cikmasi, deger vermesi ve korumasi ciddi anlamda takdir edilecek derecede. Kolezyum'un icini gezebilirsiniz, ancak giristeki sira epey uzun oluyor. Biz vaktimizi bekleyerek harcamak istemedigimizden ayrica havanin yagmurlu olmasindan da dolayi simdilik icerisini gezmedik, bir sonraki gidisimize biraktik. Kolezyum'un cevresinde güzel parklar var, ayrica FORUM ROMANUM bulunmakta. Burada da tarihi yapilar ve kalintilar mevcut, gezmenizi tavsiye ederim.

The COLOSSEUM should definitely be on your itinerary. I am overwhelmed by its history: It was built in the first century (AD 80) and is still maintained. It is admirable that it was protected until now. You can of course enter the Colosseum, but there is always a long queue in front of the entrance. We didn't want to waste our time waiting and it was also rainy, so I decided to explore the Colosseum in detail next time when I am there. Not far from the Colosseum, there is the FORUM ROMANUM. I can definitely recommend to visit this ancient place.

Kolezyum'dan sonra PIAZZA VENEZIA'ya dogru yürüyebilirsiniz. Burada ALTARE DELLA PATRIA adli Vittorio Emanuele II aniti bulunmakta. Barok mimariye bayiliyorum. Muazzam degil mi sizce de? Üzerindeki heykeller ciddi anlamda ustalik eseri. Ayrica buranin panoramik terasi var, dilerseniz cikip Roma'ya yukaridan bakabilirsiniz.

After visiting the Colosseum, you can walk to the PIAZZA VENEZIA and visit the ALTARE DELLA PATRIA. This building is just incredible - so beautiful with its baroque design!!! It features also a panoramic terrace, so you can enjoy the beautiful view of Rome.

Görülmesi gereken bir diger yapi ise PANTHEON. Buranin da icini gezebilirsiniz. Ayrica Pantheon'un bulundugu meydanda bircok kücük restoranlar ve cafeler mevcut. Roma'da gecirdigimiz günlerde bu meydana sürekli ugrama firsati bulduk, bazen cappuccinomuzu ictik, bazense yemegimizi yedik.

Don't forget to visit also the PANTHEON. By the way, on the square there are many cute cafes and restaurants, which I can absolutely recommend. My favorite two restaurants you can find down below. No matter whether you want to have a classic Italian cappuccino or have a delicate dinner with pizza and pasta - you can have it all here!

Bu meydanda bulunan DI RIENZO ve NAPOLETANO'S PANTHEON restoranlarini tavsiye edebilirim. Di Rienzo'da yedigim spagetti efsaneydi ayrica servis de güzel. Napoletanos'ta da klasik Roma usulü pizza yemistim, incecik ve citir hamuruyla o da güzeldi. Aslinda nerede yerseniz yiyin fark etmiyor, Roma'da rastgele gittigim bütün restoranlarin yemekleri iyiydi - ya ben gercekten sansliydim ya da bütün sehrin restoranlari iyi. 

I can recommend both the restaurants DI RIENZO and NAPOLETANO'S PANTHEON. The pasta I had eaten at Di Rienzo was fantastic! And my Roman-style pizza margherita with its crispy thin crust at Napoletano's was also super delicious. Actually it is not that important which restaurant you choose; I am not sure - either I was really lucky and came to amazing restaurants coincidentally or all the restaurants in Rome are fantastic. 

Roma'ya gelip Ask Cesmesi olarak da bilinen FONTANA DI TREVI'yi görmeden dönerseniz bir sey kacirmissiniz demektir. Roma'da en begendigim yer oldu diyebilirim. Dilegimi dileyip bozuk parami da attim tabii icine.  Ayrica soguk falan dinlemedik gittik meydanda bulunan dondurmacidan (ismi GELATI'ydi bu arada) dondurmalarimizi da aldik. Ne Verona, ne Milano, ne baska bi yer - en güzel dondurmayi Roma'da yedim. Hatta Roma'nin en meshur dondurmacisinin ismi GIOLITTI. Gelmisken gidip dondurmanizi yiyin derim. 

Bu arada Fontana di Trevi civarinda alisveris yapabileceginiz bircok sokak var, tüm magazalar bilinen markalara ait. Mesela magazalari geze geze Piazza di Spagna'ya gidebilirsiniz.

If you come to Rome and don't visit the fountain of love called FONTANA DI TREVI, then you have missed the best. This was my favorite place, so so beautiful! Of course I have also tossed a coin into the fountain which is the popular tradition of this place.  Although it was rainy and a little cold, the weather hasn't kept us from having our classic Italian ice-cream. We got ours from the gelateria GELATI - super fruity and delicious! By the way, the most popular gelateria in Rome is GIOLITTI. But I love them all. 

One tip for the shopping fans: There are many shops located close to the fountain, you can do your shopping here or just stroll to the Piazza Spagna.

Geldik PIAZZA SPAGNA'ya. Burada meshur ISPANYOL MERDIVENLERI bulunmakta. Roma'ya gelip bu merdivenleri cikmadim derseniz cok ayip olur, listenize ekleyin mutlaka. Ayrica buradan Roma'nin meshur VIA CONDOTTI sokagina girip Louis Vuitton, Prada ve Gucci gibi büyük markalarin vitrinlerini söyle bir süzebilirsiniz.

Here we are, PIAZZA SPAGNA. Here you can walk the famous SPANISH STEPS, which is a must when being in Rome. Maybe a stroll down the VIA CONDOTTI isn't a bad idea too. Here you can find the shops of the world's most famous fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci.

Inanilmaz güzel olan bir diger yer ise PIAZZA NAVONA. Buraya ba-yil-dim. Su cesmenin güzelligine bakar misiniz? Ayrica cok tatli cafeler de var meydanda, kahvenizi ve tiramisunuzu alip keyif yapabilirsiniz. Buraya gelmisken SANT'AGNES IN AGONE kilisesini de girip görmenizi tavsiye ederim.

PIAZZA NAVONA is so beautiful. With its giant fountains, baroque buildings and lovely street artists, this square is an amazing place to get lost in Roman history. There are also some cute cafes you can have your cappuccino and tiramisu at. I can also recommend to visit the SANT'AGNES IN AGONE.

Muhakkak ugramaniz gereken bir diger yer ise TRASTEVERE. Kücük cafeleri, dar sokaklari ve arnavut kaldirimiyla sicacik bir atmosfer sunan bu sirin yer, Roma'nin gizli bahcesi aslinda. Bizim gittigimiz gün maalesef bir anda yagmur bastirdi ve hava epey sogudu. Bu yüzden ne güzel fotograflar cekebildim, ne de oranin tadini cikarabildim. Ancak birdahaki gidisimde Trastevere'ye daha cok zaman ayiracagim mutlaka. Neyseki yagmur falan dinlemedik GIANICOLO tepesine ciktik. Daha önce bir yerlerde okumustum buranin güzel bir Roma manzarasi sundugunu. Hazir Trastevere'ye gelmisken buraya da ugrayalim dedim ve ciktik. Gercekten aslinda o kadar güzel bir manzara sunan bir yer ki, ancak hava kapali ve kötü olunca fotografa yansimadi. Buradan Altare Della Patria'yi bile görebiliyorsunuz. Bence manzara istiyorsaniz kesin bu tepeye cikin - ama hava güzel olsun.

You should also get to TRASTEVERE. I call this lovely quarter, the secret garden of Rome. With its small alleys, cute cafes and restaurants and ancient buildings, it provides the best opportunity to enjoy the daily life in Rome. Unfortunately it was so rainy and cold when we got there, so I couldn't take many photos. But next time when I visit Rome, I will definitely spend more time there. Nevertheless, the unfavorable weather couldn't spoil our day. I knew that the GIANICOLO hill affords the best view of Rome, so we went up there. It was breathtakingly beautiful and you could see everything from up above. But unfortunately the photos aren't that beautiful since it was so rainy. But I can definitely recommend to get there!

Roma'ya gelip VATIKAN'i görmeden dönmek olmaz tabii. SAN PIETRO BAZILIKASI'ni görmenizi ve Vatikan müzelerini ziyaret etmenizi tavsiye ederim, kesinlikle deger.

Who would have thought it: VATICAN CITY. You definitely have to see the ST. PETER'S BASILICA and visit the Vatican museums. Definitely worth it!

Ayrica SANT'ANGELO KALESI'ni de gezmeye calisin. Hatta önündeki köprüde yürüyün, sokak müzisyenlerine kulak verin ve manzaranin tadini cikarin.

Also you can visit the CASTEL SANT'ANGELO and walk over the beautiful bridge in front of the castle, listen to the street musicians and enjoy the view.

Aslinda Roma'yi anlat anlat bitmez, daha gezilecek görülecek bircok yeri var ancak hepsinden bahsetmem gerekirse bu yaziyi asla sonlandiramam. En önemli yerlerinden bahsettim zaten. Ancak dedigim gibi, illa her yeri gezecegim diye kosturmayin, sadece sehrin tadini cikarin ve ruhunu hissetmeye calisin, en önemlisi bu. Roma'yi tavsiye eder miyim? Bu da soru mu! Bana göre acik ara Avrupa'daki en güzel sehir. Roma'yi fotograflardan görüp baskalarindan dinlemekle, kendi gözlerinizle görmek arasinda daglar kadar fark var. Bunu her sehir icin söyleyemem, ancak Roma'da durum bu. Bu sehir büyüleyici, kendi gözlerinizle görmeniz lazim! Daha önce Roma'ya hic gitmeyenler: Hala neyi bekliyorsunuz? Ilk firsatta biletinizi alin ve gidin bu sehri bastan sona kesfedin!!! Ayrica kaldigim oteli, NH Collection Palazzo Cinquecento'yu, size gercekten tavsiye edebilirim, konumu, konforu, herseyiyle mükemmeldi!

Of course there are maaany many places to explore in Rome, but if I had to talk about each one, this post would never end. The most important places I have listed in this post, you can add them into your travel itinerary. But like I mentioned before, don't be in a rush just to see everything. Do it like us, just try to focus on the city and it will guide you everywhere! For me, Rome is the most beautiful city of Europe and everyone should definitely visit this lovely city and see everything with their own eyes. No photo or video or anything else is comparable to exploring the city on your own. Thus, if you have never been to Rome yet: just book the next flight and discover!!! I can also recommend the hotel we stayed at during our whole trip. The NH Collection Palazzo Cinquecento is super central and comfortable and would be a great accommodation!
